Jersey Shore

Fireworks displays in Ocean County

Ocean County is shaped by water on both sides of the mainland. To the east, a string of barrier islands holds the ocean beaches. To the west of those islands sits Barnegat Bay, a broad shallow body of water that makes a natural stage for an evening show. Because the bay is wide and the shoreline is long, one display can be seen from many waterfront decks, docks and boats at once.

That geography drives most planning questions. A show fired from a bay barge or a bayfront park is viewed across open water, so spectators can sit a good distance away and still see every burst. A display on the ocean side has to account for the onshore breeze, the width of the beach and the way crowds line up along the dunes. Bridges and causeways to the barrier islands are the only ways in and out, which means traffic and parking deserve as much thought as the aerial program itself.

The interior of the county is a different story. Large tracts of woodland, many planned communities and a significant retirement population mean that community celebrations here are often held at clubhouses, fields and association grounds. Residents tend to prefer shows that are impressive without being excessively loud, and that calls for a thoughtful choice of effects and a clear notice to neighbors before the day arrives.

The summer season is when the shore towns are busiest, with Fourth of July and weekend events bringing visitors in the thousands. Smaller private occasions also fit well here, including waterfront weddings, anniversary parties, yacht club celebrations and reunions at summer homes. Off-season, the calendar slows but does not stop, and winter and early spring dates are easier to secure and easier to schedule around contractors and caterers.

To start a plan, send us the date, the location and the type of event, and tell us whether the show would be over the bay, near the ocean or at an inland site. We will go through the distances the site allows, the effects that suit the crowd, and the permit steps your town will require. The quote form is the quickest way to begin, and we will reply with a clear outline of what the show could look like.

About Ocean County

  • Toms River is the county seat, and the county sits between Barnegat Bay on its inland side and the Atlantic Ocean beyond a chain of barrier islands.
  • Long Beach Island and the Seaside area on the barrier islands draw large summer visitor crowds to the beaches and bayfront.
  • Large pine woodland and planned retirement communities cover much of the interior, so open land and residential density vary a great deal by town.
